The Beginning

Cristina, along with her cousin Christy, just came back from visiting several doctors in DC and Baltimore. The bottom line is that she has assembled a team of doctors that specialize in the type of cancer that she has....Sarcoma.
She is scheduled for surgery on Feb 9th at Johns Hopkins. If she decides to use this facility,
The doctors will actually be doing the removal of the tumor and the cheekbone area and then immediately doing the reconstructive surgery at the same time. The surgery will be rigorous (about 8 hours long) and she will be in the hospital from 8-10 days. They will be using part of her lower leg bone to create her new and improved cheek bone.
She will have a long recovery/rehab time and will need plenty of support. We don't have too much other information right now....she has to do a few more tests prior to the surgery. But the physicians (her oncologist, Head and neck surgeron, and recontructive surgeon) are very optimistic. They feel this is a low grade tumor and even though the surgery is radical, they feel as though they can remove all the tumor.
She know's that we are all ready to do a benefit and is so touched by the amount of love and support coming her way. As soon as she is ready, we will get going on a benefit and I will be bugging all of you to help! So right now, she is very busy and a bit overwhelmed but in good spirits. Keep all that good energy coming her way!!
